Dunbar: Funding Will Boost Local Infrastructure Projects
12/19/2023
HARRISBURG –House Republican Caucus Chairman Rep. George Dunbar (R-Westmoreland) today announced that the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) has awarded funds to several local stormwater and sewer projects.

“Local government entities have a number of projects that are sometimes held up because the funding just isn’t there,” said Dunbar. “This is precisely why this grant system was developed, to bring projects like these from the planning phase to completion.”

Sought by the Penn Township Sewage Authority, in the Village of Boquet, the Brush Creek sewage line will be extended to provide sewage services to area residents. The project received a $400,000 grant.

Also in Penn Township, Dunbar worked in conjunction with Sen. Kim Ward (R-Westmoreland) to have $1.38 million allocated to repair and improve the stormwater system at Penntowne Estates.

Dunbar and Ward joined forces with Rep. Eric Davanzo (R-Westmoreland) to dedicate $800,000 to a pump station improvement project in Hartford Heights, North Huntingdon Township, sought by the North Huntingdon Township Municipal Authority.

Established in 2004, the CFA is an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development. It distributes funding through several programs dedicated to economic growth.

The grants awarded for these projects are funded through Pennsylvania’s H20 PA and Small Water and Sewer programs. In 2022, more than $300 million in federal funds were directed to the programs by the General Assembly through Act 54 of 2022.

“Local authorities work hard to keep rates affordable while still completing repair and expansion projects,” said Dunbar. “State investments like these, ultimately, are a benefit to everyone in the area because a working infrastructure better positions our region for economic development.”
