Jul. 08, 2022 / Press Release
HARRISBURG – PA House Majority Caucus Chairman (R-Westmoreland) issued the below statement following the passage of legislation to finalize the 2022-23 budget:
“The 2022-23 budget is crafted in a way that it keeps government spending in check, in addition to investing in Pennsylvania’s core functions, including education and public safety. While it saves money in preparation for an uncertain future, it keeps Harrisburg’s commitment to funding schools, growing our economy, improving infrastructure and supporting vulnerable populations.
“Part of this budget plan focuses on economic improvement by cutting the Corporate Net Income Tax in half, from 9.99% to 4.99% over the next few years. Small businesses will also be able to expand their expense deductions. These moves will allow our small businesses to grow, despite federal inflation and higher fuel costs. Ultimately, it will mean better wages for Pennsylvania’s work force.
“Fiscal discipline is perhaps the strongest aspect of the budget plan, because it deposits more than $2 billion into the Rainy Day Fund, pays off some of our debts and carries over more than $3.5 billion into next year’s budget. In doing so, we are keeping government from spending beyond its means and staving off future tax increases that would hinder economic growth and further burden hardworking families.”
