This year’s Penn Trafford Excellence in Education Luncheon was extra special. What a wonderful memory to have my daughter, Samantha, standing next to me as one of the top student honorees. Thank you, Penn Trafford School District, for everything you have done for my girls and all our students. Also, a big thank you to the Penn Township Business Association for hosting the event. It was an honor speaking to the future leaders of Pennsylvania: RULE Penn State at the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel. It is always inspiring to see so many neighbors joining together to honor our nation’s fallen military heroes during the Irwin Memorial Day Parade. The guest of honor for our Veterans’ Appreciation Dinner, held on July 22, 2017 at the Norwin VFW Post 781, was Norwin VFW Commander Donald Kattic. Donald is a Korean War veteran, former Norwin High School teacher, an outstanding activist for military veterans and senior citizens, and an all-around pillar of the community. In recognition of his many enduring achievements, we presented Donald with a House citation and a poster collage of photos provided by his family. After seven years of waiting for this moment, I had the honor of welcoming the Norwin High School girls soccer team to the state Capitol and officially recognizing them on the PA House floor for capturing the 2017 PIAA State Class 4A Championship. To their great credit, the Lady Knights, under the expert guidance of Head Coach Lauren Czapor, won the state title by defeating Neshaminy High by a score of 1-0, and further distinguished themselves by placing second in the WPIAL(PIAA District VII) Class 4A Girls’ Soccer Championships. Congratulations ladies and GO Knights! It was nice to take a break from legislative session to visit with a group of local senior citizens before their tour of our beautiful state Capitol. In recognition of the Pittsburgh Penguins winning back-to-back NHL championships, I had an up-close opportunity to view the Stanley Cup at the state Capitol. I had a fun meeting with these little ones during a visit to Kindercare in North Huntingdon. It is important for working families to have trusted, quality care. These two were pretty happy! I had a great time visiting with attendees during my 2017 Senior Expo at Norwin Community Resource Center. As Majority Vice chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, I now have a more prominent role in working to ensure Pennsylvania’s fiscal house is in order during all state budget hearings and negotiations. As a strong fiscal conservative who has actively sought to reduce the tax burden on Pennsylvania taxpayers and the companies that bring jobs here, I am very gratified to be in a position to do more. During the 2017-18 Legislation Session, I am also serving as a member of the Commerce, Finance (where I am also serving as vice chairman) and Gaming Oversight committees. On Jan. 3, my family joined me once again in Harrisburg for the official swearing-in ceremony which marked the beginning of my fourth term as State Representative for the 56th Legislative District. It is truly humbling to have another opportunity to serve the people of Westmoreland County. I am greatly honored to serve as the state funding advocate for the Western Pennsylvania School for the deaf. As part of my ongoing efforts to encourage literacy through Early Childhood Education, I had a great time reading to students at JB’s Bright Beginnings Daycare. I would like to extend a huge thank you to our speakers and all our attendees who packed the house for our first-ever Concealed Carry Seminar at Colton Hall in Claridge. A special thanks to Claridge VFD for hosting us! The annual Flag Day Ceremony at the Norwin Elks always makes me especially proud of my community. I participated in a House Majority and Minority Policy Committee hearing at Westmoreland County Community College on Aug. 4 to gather testimony from judges, law enforcement, medical professionals, treatment centers, employers, educators, advocates and citizens about Pennsylvania’s opioid epidemic and its impact on our communities. One of the best parts of my job is talking to students about state government. Students always ask really great questions. Thanks to my family, friends, staff and other supporters who joined me in Harrisburg on Jan. 6 for the official swearing-in ceremony which marks the beginning of my third term as State Representative for the 56th Legislative District. The state Constitution requires members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to be sworn in for the new session on the first Tuesday in January. It is truly humbling to have another opportunity to serve the people of Westmoreland County. It was once again my honor to thank all of the brave men and women who served in the US Armed Forces during a special Veterans Day ceremony hosted by Cub Scout Pack 230 at Harrison Park Elementary. I had a great time celebrating American Education Week at Norwin School District's Annual Business-Education-Community Program. I am always impressed by the student leaders and their achievements. We had great weather and a great turn out for our 4th Annual Children's Health and Safety Expo. Many thanks to all those who came out, both families and exhibitors alike. We appreciate your time! Recently, I was honored to be recognized with my second consecutive Guardian of Small Business Award for my 100 percent small business voting record during the 2013-14 legislative session by the Pennsylvania chapter of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). During the past two years, I have fully supported small businesses on a wide variety of key issues, including my legislation that was signed into law to shield Pennsylvania job creators against being double-taxed by various municipalities (Act 42 of 2014) and the elimination of the death tax on small business assets (House Bill 465). Rep. Dunbar had a wonderful time reading to the Seton Hill Head Start kids in Jeannette. Representative Dunbar recently participated in a RoboPALS panel discussion on natural disasters. Sponsored by the Penn Township Library, Robopals is a group of 8 to 12 year old children from Penn Trafford who are competing in the First Lego League regional competition. The competition, which features teams from across southwestern Pennsylvania, involves both a robot challenge and a research project. For the research project the team was charged with learning about a natural disaster and developing an idea to help improve the lives of people who are affected by that disaster. Representative Dunbar manned the grill during the Jeannette American Legion picnic for disabled veterans at Aspinwall Veterans Hospital. Representative Dunbar welcomed attendees to his most recent <b>Dessert with George</b> constituent forum held on Aug. 15 at the Norwin Senior Community Resource Center. On Tuesday, Aug. 13 Rep. Dunbar hosted his first-ever <b>Your Call Town Hall</b> which provided local residents with three different options to participate, including attending in person, watching live via web stream on <a href="http://www.RepDunbar.com" target="_blank">RepDunbar.com</a>, or having their questions answered live via email. Representative Dunbar and Senator Kim Ward presented Mayor Robert Carter with a legislative citation in honor of Jeannette’s 125th anniversary. Representative Dunbar takes time to thank a local veteran during the annual Irwin Memorial Day Parade. Representative Dunbar recently enjoyed a fun and educational morning with the kids and staff at Penn Pals Childcare Center. Rep. Dunbar welcomed several students participating in Project 18 at Hempfield Area Senior High School to the state Capitol. Project 18 is a class that teaches and encourages students to get involved in local and state government. As a Certified Public Accountant, Representative Dunbar was honored by the invitation to speak at the Fiscal Responsibility Task Force press conference hosted by the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) in the state Capitol rotunda. Rep. George Dunbar (R-Westmoreland) accepted his 2012 Guardian of Small Business Award from Pennsylvania National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) State Director Kevin Shivers. Dunbar is among a select group of only 12 state lawmakers to earn a 100 percent ranking from the Pennsylvania NFIB during the 2011-12 legislative session. On July 28, Rep. George Dunbar host a ceremony and luncheon to salute nearly 50 local United States military veterans who served in either World War II or the Korean War. On July 23, Rep. Dunbar co-chaired a House Majority Policy Committee issue briefing and roundtable discussion at the North Huntingdon Townhouse featuring State Fire Commissioner Ed Mann and representatives from many local volunteer fire departments and emergency responders. Representative Dunbar cut the ribbon to officially open the Norwin Community Resource Center for local senior citizens. Rep. Mrs. Willig's daughter told her inspirational story to the crowd about her challenges and struggles of living with Cystic Fibrosis. On June 19, Rep. Dunbar welcomed Laila Al-Soulaiman (Left) of North Huntingdon and Olivia Darr (Right) of Acme to the state Capitol for GirlGov 2012. This program, sponsored by the Women and Girls Foundation, provides participants with the opportunity to shadow a state lawmaker for the day and learn firsthand about government and current public policy issues impacting the lives of women and girls. Rep. Dunbar delivered keynote remarks at the Norwin Elks Lodge 2313 Flag Day Ceremony. Representative Dunbar was a popular participant at this year's Westmoreland County Firemen's Convention Parade, hosted by the Penn Borough Volunteer Fire Department. Rep. Dunbar was honored to be the featured speaker at the Jeannette American Legion's Memorial Day Ceremony held at Jeannette Memorial Cemetery. Special thanks to John Howard Graphics for capturing the moment. Hosted in conjunction with Banco Business Park and featuring more than 20 organizations, Rep. Dunbar's recent Veterans Resource Expo helped to connect Westmoreland County veterans of all ages with a wide variety of employment opportunities, benefits, programs and services available to them through local, state and federal agencies. Representative Dunbar presented the top 5 percent of graduating students from Norwin School District with legislative citations as part of the Norwin Chamber of Commerce's annual Excellence in Education ceremony. As a member of the PA House State Government Committee, Representative Dunbar voted in favor of legislation to reduce the size of the PA House of Representatives from 203 to 153 members or by 25 percent. Approved by a margin of 16-8, House Bill 153 now advances to the full House floor for consideration. Representative Dunbar was honored to deliver remarks during the 12th Annual Veterans Day Breakfast held at Irwin Moose Lodge 236. Rep. George Dunbar was on hand for a presentation from the Bridge Educational Foundation at Aquinas Academy in Greensburg. The contribution on behalf of AWI and CSX Transportation is used for scholarships to students in need and is part of the state’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit. Numerous residents turned out and participated in Rep. George Dunbar’s town hall meeting Nov. 10 at the Norwin School Board Chambers in North Huntingdon. This interactive forum provided a unique opportunity for local residents to share suggestions, ask questions and offer solutions on how to address your most important legislative concerns both at home and in Harrisburg. Representative Dunbar explores a deep-well natural gas operation located in Fairfield Township. Rep.
